This Day That Age
Mr. P. Kakkan, M.P., has been elected President of the Tamil Nad Pradesh Congress Committee. He is the first Harijan chosen to this position. A meeting of the committee was convened on December 29 for the election of the President at the Congress Reception Office on Mount Road, Madras. Mr. K. Kamaraj Nadar proposed the name of Mr. Kakkan and it was seconded by Mr. N. Annamalai Pillai. There being no other nomination, Mr. Kakkan was elected unanimously. It may be recalled that Mr. Kamaraj Nadar had resigned from the TNCC Presidentship on his assumption of office as Chief Minister, and Mr. Karayalar, Vice-President, was asked to act as TNCC President.
