No mourning?

Sir, — One of the greatest calamities has struck India. Why is it that the Government did not consider it fit to declare even a day's mourning?

Sir, — When the Central Government declares state mourning for departed former Presidents and Prime Ministers, could it not declare a day's mourning for the people who perished in such large numbers in the killer tsunami?

Sir, — In view of the tragedy that has left thousands dead and homeless, there should be no merry making on December 31.

If star hotels and clubs feel a bash is unavoidable, they should contribute a share of their profits towards relief.

Sir, — Throughout the world, in spite of several tragedies, people continue to celebrate the New Year. It is done with the fond hope that at least the coming year will be a better one. Hotels and clubs can place a charity box and request the guests to drop their contributions in it.
