MUMBAI, DEC. 29. Absorbing month-end pressures, the rupee today strode to a 22-day closing high against the U.S. currency at Rs. 43.70/71 a dollar, backed by healthy trade and foreign fund inflows amidst a sliding dollar overseas. In moderately active two-way trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee gained a paisa from Tuesday's close of 43.71/72, but a smart rally from the early low of 43.79/81. It opened weak at 43.75/76. The rupee gained a steep 14 paise yesterday. Having reached the 43.70/71 a dollar level logged at the close of trade on December 7, the rupee is now within striking distance of 43.64/65 clocked at the end of business on December 6, a forex dealer said.
