NEW DELHI: Huge loss of life and property has been caused by the earthquake followed by tsunami waves in Southern India and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, that requires relief and rehabilitation on a massive scale. S. S. Kohli, Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab National Bank, said the board of the bank expressed deep sorrow over this calamity and decided to donate Rs. 5 crores to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. In addition, all its employees have decided to contribute one-day's salary to the PM's Relief Fund. He further said that the bank had authorised its various branches to collect donations for Prime Minister's National Relief Fund free of charge. The bank is also taking steps to provide financial assistance and relief measures for its customers industrial units, agriculturists, traders and others affected by this natural calamity as per RBI/IBA guidelines, says a bank release.
