NEW DELHI, DEC. 29. The Premier Hockey League (PHL) that begins at the Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad, on January 13, will offer the players a fee according to an arranged pattern. The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) announced here on Wednesday that players would be divided into four levels for the Tier I tournament and those in the top-most bracket would be paid Rs. 1 lakh each. Level `B' will get Rs. 35,000, Level `C' Rs. 25,000 and Level `D' Rs. 15,000 as participation fees. The five Tier I captains Dilip Tirkey, Ignace Tirkey, Viren Rasquinha, Gagan Ajit Singh and Arjun Halappa plus six other "senior most players'' are expected to get Rs. 1 lakh each. The support staff of the teams, including the coach and the manager, would also be paid Rs. 25,000 each for their participation in the PHL. As already announced, five teams each in two tiers, yet to be formed, will figure in the inaugural league that is also expected to attract more than a dozen foreign players. The league will offer total prize money of Rs. 71 lakh. The Tier I winner will take home Rs. 30 lakh while the runner-up will get Rs. 10 lakh. The Tier II winner will get Rs. 4 lakh and the runner-up Rs 2.5 lakhs. The IHF will specify the allocation of the prize money between players and associations. Last week, sports goods major Adidas announced sponsoring official kits to all the participating teams in the two tiers of the PHL. Our Special Correspondent
