Megh shocks Rajesh

AHMEDABAD, DEC. 29. Local lad and 20th seed Megh Patel (7) of Bhavnagar shocked the under-11 National champion and top seed V. Rajesh (6) of Andhra Pradesh on the second board in the eighth round in the Under-9 Boys' National chess championship at the Karnavati Club here on Wednesday.

However, the 13th seed Sahaj Grover of Delhi continued to lead the field with eight points after defeating another local star Fennil Shah on the top board.

The second spot is being shared by — Megh Patel (Gujarat), Gottipati Vijaya and Vioani Antonio (Karnataka) — with seven points each while just a half-point behind are K. Murali Krishna, L. Mahindra Venkat and Mehar Chinnareddy (all from Andhra Pradesh).

Rajesh, playing with white pieces, opened the game with his favourite `e3' against which Megh adopted a cautious but positive approach.
