THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 29. The district administration today swung into action to prevent the outbreak of epidemics among the families relocated to relief camps in the wake of the tidal surges along the coast. A meeting of Health officials convened by the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) decided to take precautionary measures against epidemics.
Emergency medicines
Emergency medicines will be stocked and sanitation activities will be stepped up in the camps. The meeting also decided to construct temporary toilets. Doctors attached to public health centres in the coastal areas have been directed to be present for duty round the clock. Medical camps will continue functioning. The District Medical Officers E.K. Madhavan, K.V. Patel and T.N. Satheendran, the SAT hospital superintendent, Rajmohan, and the Deputy Collector, M. Salahuddin, attended the meeting. An official pressnote quoting the ADM, V. Prabhakaran Nair, said 21 camps relief camps were functioning all over the district. As many as 26,102 persons have been housed in these camps.
