CHANDIGARH, DEC.29. Haryana Ministers, ruling Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MPs, party MLAs and chairmen of Boards and Corporations in the State have decided to contribute a day's salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the victims of the worst-ever natural calamity to hit coastal India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Announcing this here today, the Rajya Sabha member and INLD general secretary, Ajay Singh Chautala, said the Haryana Government had already announced its contribution to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Talking to mediapersons, Mr. Chautala asserted that the "Sankalp Rally" of INLD at Bhiwani on January 2 "would be the biggest-ever rally in the political history of the State". Besides enumerating the achievements of the Chautala regime, the rally would set the agenda for development to be undertaken during the next five years as INLD would get the mandate to rule for another term. He reiterated that INLD would do better than it did in the 2000 Assembly polls when it won 47 out of 90 seats. He denied that the Government headed by his father had retrenched thousands of government employees. He said that in the interests of the State, only the Minor Irrigation and Tubewell Corporation was closed and there too care was taken that its employees were gradually re-employed in other departments. He came down heavily on the Congress leaders who were competing with each other in making malicious allegations against the INLD Government regarding recruitment. text ignored Asked about any electoral alliance, he said that the INLD was fully geared to contest all the Assembly seats on its own. He refuted the claim that the break-up with the BJP would affect the electoral prospects of the INLD by pointing out that the party had contested and won the Yamunanagar and Fathehbad by-elections in the past when the BJP too was in the race.
Call to IAS officers
The President of the Haryana IAS Officers' Association has urged all the members of the Association to contribute at least one day's salary towards rehabilitation of the families affected by the tsunami waves which hit the southern States on Sunday causing large-scale loss of life and massive damage to property. He said the contribution should be sent to the Treasurer of the Association through cheque. Larger contributions from the members would be appreciated, he added.
