THRISSUR, DEC. 29. The CPI(M) has decided to avoid all major festivities in connection with its district conference scheduled to begin at Guruvayur on January 1 in view of the calamities unleashed by the tsunami waves in the country. Addressing a press conference here today, the party leaders E.P. Jayarajan, K.P. Aravindakshan and K. V. Abdul Khader said that there would be a massive rally and red volunteers' march on the concluding day of the conference on January 3. They said the delegates' meeting would be inaugurated by the party State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, at 10 a.m. on January 1. Mr. Vijayan would also inaugurate the public meeting to be held on the concluding day. The noted historian K N Panikker will inaugurate the cultural conference to be held on January 1 evening. Several other cultural programmes like poets' meet, dramas and film screenings have also been arranged as part of the three-day conference.
