MADIKERI, DEC. 29. The Sadguru Sai Trust based at T. Shettigeri in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district has offered to adopt 15 children who have either been orphaned or suffered in the tsunami disaster in Tamil Nadu. "We are deeply moved by the tragedy," the president of the trust, Kolera Zaru Ganapathi, told The Hindu on Wednesday. The trust will initially adopt 15 children studying from Class VI since the Sadguru Sai Shankar School has 17 orphan students in the same class and age groups, Mr. Ganapathi said. The adopted children could be put up at the residential school on the trust premises. If they are Tamil speaking, they can be admitted to the Government Tamil School nearby, but accommodated in the residential school on the trust premises, he said. Mr. Ganapathi said the 17 students already there had been picked from various places in Kodagu, Karwar, Dharwad and other parts of the State. They are being provided free education and accommodation. Mr. Ganapathi said he had consulted the Indian Red Cross in Bangalore over the issue of adoption.
