VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 29. The police on Wednesday unearthed two dumps with a huge quantity of high-grade explosives in the vicinity of Koondrapalli village in G.K. Veedhi mandal of the agency region in the district. The first of the dumps had 150 kg of gelatin sticks, three grenades, some revolutionary literature, diaries, 20 audio cassettes, 15 CDs, batteries and other material. The second had 30 directional mines and 25 pairs of new olive green uniforms. The explosive material was adequate to blast 70 to 80 vehicles, the Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar Jain, told reporters late in the evening. There was evidence that the dumps were set up only about a month ago, and the naxalites were clearly utilising the `talks' period to equip themselves to target the police, he alleged. Mr. Jain said the directional mines were new and the CDs and the new calendar from December 2004 to November 2005, red badges, the new receipt books of Rythu Coolie Sangham, all showed that the dumps -- which included four big plastic drums -- were of very recent origin.
