NELLORE, DEC. 29. The national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), B. Dattatreya, and its State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, have questioned the propriety of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in convening a all-party meet to discuss the so-called `modifications' to the free power supply scheme. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, they lashed out at the Government for allegedly diverting the attention of the people from the tidal wave calamity. Also, it was a clever ploy to dilute and ultimately give up free power supply. Mr. Dattatreya claimed that re-thinking on power supply was mainly due to the dictates of the World Bank, which had to fund pending projects. He said that there were also moves to fix meters in the coming days. The BJP leaders found fault with the timing of the all-party meet, which they contended should have concentrated on relief measures to tsunami-affected areas. Also, functionaries of various political parties should have been taken into confidence, they said. Mr. Dattatreya demanded that the scheme be continue. He recalled that the first official act of Dr. Reddy after taking over as Chief Minister was to sign the file pertaining to free power.
