Tickets for `neyyabhishekam'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DEC. 29. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) will make available the tickets for `neyyabhishekam' at the Sabarimala Temple during the Makara Vilakku season through all the branches of Dhanalakshmi Bank in the country. These branches will also accept donations for the `Annadana' programme being implemented by the TDB at Sabarimala.

AIR programme for students

All India Radio will broadcast `Vijayavani', a special programme for students appearing for the SSLC examination (new scheme) to be held in March 2005. The programme will be broadcast between January 1 and March 8. It will be relayed by the Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha stations at 7.05 a.m. and 9.16 p.m. and by the other stations in Kerala at 9.16 p.m. on all days except Sundays. Model question papers will also be presented at the programme that covers the syllabus of all subjects in detail. The AIR has been presenting the programme every year since 2000.

`Water tank specials'

The Railways have decided to run `water tank specials' to the needy areas of Kollam and Alappuzha districts for those affected by the tsunami disaster on Sunday. According to a Southern Railway release, a team of doctors from the Railways has reached the Kayamkulam relief camp with medicines to assist the district administration.

Nominated

The first meeting of the reconstituted Lalitha Kala Akademi presided over by its chairman Yesudasan nominated five persons to the general council. They are Anuradha Nalappad, Thomas Antony, K.K. Rajappan, V.P. Sasidharan and Cyril P. Jacob.

Elected

Vijayan Marancherry has been elected president of the All Kerala Photographers Association. The 20th State conference of the association also elected K.R. Jayachandran Nair as the general secretary.

Conference postponed

The National Language Conference scheduled to be organised jointly by the Hindi Academy, Delhi, Rashtra Bhasha Sansthan, Thiruvananthapuram, and Dakshina Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha, Kerala, from January 1 to 3 at Thiruvananthapuram has been postponed because of the situation in the State following the tsunami disaster on Sunday. The fresh date of the conference will be announced later.

Closure of steel units demanded

PALAKKAD DEC. 29. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has demanded the closure of 34 power-intensive steel units functioning in the Kanjikode industrial area in Pudussery panchayat of the district.

In a statement here today, Mr. Achuthanandan said that some of these companies were allegedly involved in the theft of electricity and causing pollution.

Postponed

Thrissur Dec. 29. A function to present the State professional drama awards, scheduled to be held at Thripayar on December 30, has been postponed, according to an official press release from the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

KOZHIKODE DEC. 29. The ongoing multi-verse English camp `Festivez -towards 2005' for school students of both Malayalam and English medium being organised by the A.E. High School, Santivayal, Kolapuram in Malappuram district will conclude on December 30. As many as 120 students are participating in the initiative christened `decolonising English.' A wide range of programmes such as ice-breaking sessions, language games, interaction with mediapersons, meeting with international guests, film screening and cultural feast are being conducted.

Aid for relief sought

Practioners of Art of Living lifestyle popularised by Sri Sri Ravishankar have sought assistance for their relief work for victims of the tsunami disaster. The assistance is accepted through offices of their organisation, Vyakthi Vikas Kendra. Bank meeting

The South Malabar Gramin Bank (SMGB) will hold a customers meeting at the Nediyiruppu branch in the afternoon on December 31. It is part of a series of mass contact programmes arranged by the bank from September to March. The customers' meet on December 31 will be inaugurated by the SMGB General Manager, Thomas.

Pensioners' gesture

The Kozhikode District committee, Kerala State Service Pensioners Union (KSSPU), will donate a day's pension amount to the tsunami relief fund. The decision was made at the secretariat meeting of the committee held here on Tuesday.
