Collector shifted

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 29. The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to shift the Alappuzha District Collector, K. Ramanandan, with immediate effect.

The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, told presspersons that Mr. Ramanandan was being removed on account of his lapses in organising relief camps for victims of tsunami in the district. The former Thiruvananthapuram Collector, K.R. Muraleedharan, was being posted as the new Collector of Alappuzha. Mr. Muraleedharan was being asked to take charge today itself.

Mr. Chandy said that the Government did not want to harm any officials. Though there were limitations in providing facilities in relief camps, the district administration should rise to the occasion. Mr. Ramanandan was being sent back as project director of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan where he had done good work previously.

The Collector had not carried out certain instructions given by the Chief Minister after his visit to the camp the next day, citing rules.
