THRISSUR, DEC.29. L iterary and social critic Sukumar Azhikode who has been selected for the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram for this year has decided to contribute the Rs. 1 lakh award amount to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the victims of the tsunami. In a statement issued here today, Dr. Azhikode said he had no objection in the Cultural Affairs Minister directly handing over the amount to the Chief Minister to avoid any delay.
Governor's contribution
Our Thiruvananthapuram Bureau adds: The Governor, R.L. Bhatia, has contributed one month's salary to the Chief Minister's fund. Government employees and teachers have decided to contribute one day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This was decided at a meeting of representatives of service organisations, convened by the Chief Secretary, in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. The Congress MPs, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and Vayalar Ravi, have donated Rs. 25 lakhs each from their respective MP Fund.
NSS gesture
Our Staff Reporter writes from Kottayam: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has donated Rs.10 lakhs towards relief operations for the tsunami-affected people.The NSS general secretary, P.K. Naryana Panicker, has asked the employees of various NSS institutions to send one day's wage to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
