KURNOOL, DEC. 29. The district Collector, Vikas Raj, has asked the officials to examine the possibility of starting weekly shandies at a few more villages with an idea of providing to people better access to essential commodities. Addressing a meeting of officials on district development planning here on Wednesday, he said out of 451 tanks, about 50 per cent of tanks were not utilised properly. By carrying out minor repairs, the tanks could be revived. Also, he asked the officials not to allow digging of borewells in gray areas of the district by identifying such areas. He said non-farm activities should be promoted in arid zones while crop shift and other methods be adopted for better yield in the canal areas. A committee was constituted with officers to monitor the development.
