Many organisations mobilise relief

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI, DEC 29. A number of organisations belonging to various political parties and NGOs in the district have swung into action to collect relief material and cash donations for the benefit of the tsunami victims.

The CPI(M), led by its district secretary, K. Murali, on Wednesday mobilised a range of relief material, including Rs.10,000 worth of medicines through the district unit of the AP Medical and Sales Representatives Union affiliated to its trade union arm, CITU.

SVU students belonging to its department of Economics collected materials and cash to a tune of Rs.20,000 and were preparing to distribute them in the affected areas of the Nellore district which comes under the purview of Sri Venkateswara University.

A suggestion being made in some circles here is that district Collectors could assess the need of each affected village and accordingly route relief material through NGOs to avoid duplication and dumping.
