MYSORE, DEC. 29. Defending champion, Karnataka retained the boys' and the girls' titles beating Delhi in both the finals on the concluding day of the XIV National junior throwball championships at the Citizen's English school's stadium in Nanjangud on Wednesday. In the boys' final, Karnataka, helped by some inspiring play by Imran and T.S. Pradeep, registered a hard-fought 25-18,18-25, 25-15 win over Delhi to clinch the title. In the girls' final, the host was well served by Yashodhara and Trishna in scoring a 25-16, 25-18 win over Delhi.
Boys: Final: Karnataka bt Delhi 25-18, 18-25, 25-15.
Semifinals: Karnataka bt AP 25-14, 25-23; Delhi bt UP 25-17, 25-14.
Quarterfinals: UP bt Maharashtra 25-15, 25-22; AP bt Vidharbha 25-20, 25-23; Delhi bt Mumbai 25-8, 25-21; Karnataka bt Chattisgarh 25-15, 25-23.
Girls: Final: Karnataka bt Delhi 25-16, 25-18.
Semifinals: Delhi bt Chattisgarh 25-21, 25-13; Karnataka bt AP 25-22, 21-25, 25-18.
Quarterfinals: AP bt Chandigarh 25-10, 25-9; Karnataka bt Tamil Nadu 25-7, 25-17; Delhi bt HP 25-1, 25-5; Chattisgarh bt Mumbai 25-19, 18-25, 25-15.
