Five held on robbery charge

VIJAYAWADA, DEC. 29. The Krishna Lanka police have arrested five persons accused of being involved in the burglary of a jewellery store and seized gold and silver jewellery worth Rs. 1.70 lakhs from their possession.

The arrested were identified as B. Raja Reddy, N. Durga Prasad, K. Satyanarayana alias Satish, and B. Sivaprasad alias Chinni all residents of Krishna Lanka and S. Charan Kumar, a resident of Patamata.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, the Central Crime Station (CCS-I) Inspector, G. V. Prakasa Rao, said the accused were nabbed on Tuesday evening near the Sitammavari Padalu Centre while travelling in a car.

The inspector claimed that during interrogation, the accused persons confessed to their involvement in the burglary of the Vijayamanikanta Jewellery store at Krishna Lanka on September 7 in which jewellery worth Rs. 2.8 lakhs was allegedly stolen.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Krishna Lanka sub-inspector, K.V.N.N. Prasad, and the Patmata sub-inspector, G. Chinna Rao.
