VIJAYAWADA, DEC. 29. The official death toll of the killer tsunami in Krishna district is 35 according to a communiqué released by the District Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, here on Wednesday. The families of the victims -- 21 women, 12 children and two men -- were paid 11.50 lakhs ex gratia. The Collector said Rs. 64,000 was spent on cremating or burying the bodies. The district administration distributed 141 tonnes of rice and 15,000 water packets to the families rendered homeless by the tsumani. Those who lost their houses were given Rs. 3.09 lakhs as compensation. The families eligible for ex gratia under the `apadbandu scheme' were given Rs. 4 lakhs. The district administration also coordinated non-government organisations distributing 200 bedsheets, clothes, utensils, nine tonnes of rice and 12 quintals of pulses to the victims.
