Inter-collegiate festival opens

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA, DEC.29. The two-day State-level inter-collegiate cultural and literary festival "Siddhartha Srijanotsav" was declared open here on Wednesday by the Vice-Chancellor of NTR Health University, R. Sambasiva Rao.

Students of 52 colleges in the State will participate in the events that include personality development, debate, quiz, group song, light music, classical music, pop music, folk dances and skit.

Dedication

The festival was dedicated to the memory of the noted Carnatic vocalist, M.S. Subbulakshmi, who passed away recently.

Prof. Rao underlined the need for regular conduct of such literary and cultural events by colleges as it would help in overall personality development of students. He said colleges should not confine themselves to classroom teaching, but lay stress on honing the inherent literary and cultural talents of students. Such festivals would also help in developing a healthy camaraderie among students and lecturers, he said.

The secretary of the Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education (SAGTE), Mummaneni Subba Rao, said the festival was being conducted for the 10th year in succession and was mainly intended to tap talent among students.

He said the festival would be a pleasant show adding sobriety and grace to the occasion. Mr. Rao said the festival provided an ideal arena for the students to exhibit their talent, aspirations and dreams. Besides promoting camaraderie and fellowship, the occasion would help in developing the corporate living culture and compatibility, he said.

The principal of the Sri Durga Malleswara Mahila Kalasala, R.Rama Devi, said the annual personality development contest "Adarsha Mahila" had been rechristened "Yuvathi 2005". The event would be held on Thursday in which about 80 students were expected to vie for the honour.

The treasurer of the academy, P.L.N. Prasad, and the principal of the P.B. Siddhartha College, S.V.S. Sastry, were present.

Free boarding and lodging facilities would be provided by the organisers for outstation participants.
