NAGAPATTINAM, DEC. 29. The Tamil Nadu Government should immediately convene an all-party meeting at the State and district levels for coordination of relief measures for the tsunami-hit, Prakash Karat, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member said here today. Short and long-term relief measures should be arranged immediately and this could be done if the State Government and the district administration coordinated with the parties, he told mediapersons. The West Bengal CPI(M) unit took the responsibility for providing relief in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, Mr. Karat pointed out. The services of the rest of the CPI(M) units in the country would be utilised for Tamil Nadu. Mr. Karat who along with N. Varadarajan, State CPI(M) secretary, visited the affected areas of Nagore and Nagapattinam, said the maximum loss of lives and damage were caused in this district. The party would set up 14 centres there with 400 volunteers for relief operations including removal and disposal of bodies. It also deployed a team of doctors for providing medical aid.
