JAIPUR, DEC. 29. Rajasthan has sought national status for the Centre for Development of Stones (CDOS) located in the Sitapura industrial area here. The State has asked the Union Ministry of Mines for financial support to make it a useful facility for the dimensional stone industry in the country. A visiting group of officials from Delhi, who included R.K. Bhargava, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, M. Sahu, Director, UNIDO-ICAMT, and K.P. Lall, Advisor, Ministry of Mines, were given a detailed presentation on the utility of the upcoming CDOS complex for the stone sector by the Rajasthan officials. The Chairman and Managing Director of RIICO, Rakesh Hooja, Sameer Singh, Special Secretary, Industries, Naveen Mahajan, Executive Director, RIICO, and N.K. Modi, Vice-Chairman, CDOS, briefed the visiting team. RIICO and CDOS officials expressed the hope that the Government of India and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) would enable them to effectively extend the much-needed institutional support to the stone sector across India. CDOS, set up in 1998 by the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation(RIICO), has a complex coming up at Sitapura which has a testing centre, trade promotion centre, technology and trade information centre, artisans' village, stone museum and stone park. CDOS has already carried out activities like holding India Stonemart exhibition, information dissemination on technology and trade issues, export enquiries to members, training and promotional activities, including hosting of a website on Indian dimensional stones, preparing promotional literature and executing country pavilions in international exhibitions. The complex is being jointly funded by the Rajasthan Government, the Union Ministry of Commerce, the Union Ministry of Mines and UNIDO.
