Canara Bank continues to impress

BANGALORE, DEC. 29. Canara Bank continued its good showing in this year's Deccan Herald super division hockey league overcoming SAI 3-1 at the KSHA stadium here on Wednesday. This was the bankmen's sixth win in 10 matches for a tally of 19 points.

John Verghese put Canara in the lead with a third-minute strike. Mayur Subbaiah restored parity in the 11th minute off his team's very first penalty corner. However, Vikramkanth (54th) Kaveriappa (67th) completed the tally for the bankmen.

This was SAI's second loss to go with its five wins off eight matches to tally 16 points.

In the day's other match, BPCL had to settle for a 2-2 draw with PCTC.

Len Aiyappa put the BPCL team in front scoring of the very first penalty corner the team earned. Cyprian Aind helped PCTC draw level in the 48th minute. Sandeep Michael gave BPCL the lead in the 62nd minute, only for it to be neutralised by PCTC's Anthony Embram.

BPCL has 23 points from nine matches having won seven and drawn two while PCTC has eight points from 10 matches having won two and drawn two.
