BANTWAL, DEC. 29. Human excellence lies in love for work, said Ananthakrishna, Chairman and Managing Director, Karnataka Bank, here on Wednesday. Inaugurating a two-day national workshop on "Institutional value practices" at Sri Venkatramana Swamy College, Bantwal, Mr. Ananthakrishna said that many people worked due to fear of supervision. This tendency should end. Instead, people should develop love for work, he said. The workshop was sponsored by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Mr. Ananthakrishna said that applied science, without the knowledge of basic science, would not sustain. The present generation has become slave of instruments of modern technology. He said that the education system is concentrating only on gathering of information and not on acquiring knowledge. The information collected has to be converted into knowledge. He said that "gurukula" system of education laid emphasis on values. One must try to inculcate a balanced view. Purity of heart and integrity of mind assumed significance in cultivating values, he added. The Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, B. Hanumaiah, said that in the globalised era, teachers should equip themselves to sustain in competitions by maintaining quality in every action. As the WTO Agreement would come into effect from January next, teachers have to work hard to face competitions in the education sector. He said that every institution has its own values and practices. This makes the difference with other institutions. The convener of the workshop, Seetharama Mayya, the administrator of SVS group of institutions, K. Shankar Bhat, and the chairman of the workshop, H. S. Fernandes, were present.
