Rs. 57.57 lakhs given to CM's relief fund

CHENNAI, DEC. 29. Organisations and individuals today contributed Rs.57.57 lakhs to the Chief Ministers Public Relief Fund. The Prohibition Department Secretary, P. Selvam, handed over Rs. 2.57 lakhs collected from the department and TASMAC, to the Chief Minister while I.K. Govind, DGP, handed over a cheque for Rs.2 lakhs collected from the police.

Actor Ajith and his wife Shalini handed over a cheque for Rs. 10 lakhs; producer S.A. Chandrasekhar Rs. five lakhs while actor Surya gave a cheque for Rs. 2 lakhs and actress Lakshmi Rs. 1 lakh. The Mohan Breweries head presented a cheque for Rs. 25 lakhs, says a press release.

The Government of Haryana is to contribute a sum of Rs. 3 crores to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation measures.

According to an official release, the Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today spoke to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, over telephone and informed her that the Haryana Finance Minister would hand over the amount to her. He also pledged all other assistance, including medicines, food materials and blankets.

Another release said that the Chairman of the Sundaram Finance Limited, T.S. Santhanam, would make a contribution of Rs. 1 crore to the fund. He has informed the Chief Minister that the companies in which he was associated would contribute the sum.
