COIMBATORE, DEC. 29 . Even as relief materials for tsunami victims continue to pour in, the district administration has begun an exercise to despatch the same to the affected areas in the State. The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, today received demand drafts from 59 persons totalling Rs. 4.91 lakhs. The contribution of Rs. one lakh by the Coimbatore City Club topped the list today. The Rotary Clubs have donated rice bags and utensils worth Rs. 1.20 lakh. The pharmacy dealers have donated medicines for Rs. 50,000. The Revenue officials carried out a door-to-door collection of relief materials. A vehicle with public address system went around the Government Servants' Quarters of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) and collected relief aid. The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, S. Sivasubramanian, said that the university staff would donate a day's salary. Members of the Aided College Teachers Association (ACTA) would donate a day's pay, a release from A. Raja, president of the association, said. The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) would despatch collected materials on December 31, a release from its district secretary, S. Madan, said.
