CHENNAI, DEC. 29. Several organisations have called for contributions to fishermen affected by the tsunami. A voluntary relief team, ILA Collection Centre, at 2, Ashoka Street, Alwarpet, near the Abhiramapuram Police Station (2498 5515) has invited people to provide water, bedsheets, rice, dal and sugar, bread and biscuits, firewood, matchboxes, clothes, tooth powder and utensils. The Guild of Service, an 82-year-old non-government organisation which is distributing food and clothes in Kancheepuram and Chennai, said it was in touch with the city Corporation Commissioner's office to ensure that all help reached the victims. Anyone who wished to help could contact the Guild at 28194828, 28194279, said its honorary secretary, Mrs. A. Bharathan. The Isha Yoga Centre (24333185/94440-43331) requires volunteers to run camps, collect and distribute relief articles and make monetary contributions to victims. The Rajasthan Cosmo Club's cloth bank will distribute 20,000 new clothes to the quake victims in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam. D. Jayakumar, Minister for Law and Information, will flag off the trucks carrying relief materials from Nungambakkam. Staff members of Chettinad House have distributed 3,000 food packets and 2000 dhotis and saris to the people of Srinivasapuram and surrounding areas. The volunteers of Isha Yoga Centres in Chennai, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Kanyakumari and Nagapattinam towns have given food and clothes to the affected families in different parts of the state. Four mobile health units, formed by the Centre, have been deployed in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur while three clinics were waiting for directions from government agencies. The Lions Club of Keelkattalai and other organisations distributed 25,000 food packets, five lorry-loads of dress materials, bed sheets, mats and cooking utensils. Hyundai Motors, in co-ordination with Sundar Medicaid Services, has sent a medical team to Nagapattinam. B. H. Sung, managing director and H.W. Park, executive director, Hyundai, flagged off the team, comprising six medical officers, 20 nursing staff and 25 volunteers, from their factory at Irungattukottai. Exquisita Foods said it was willing to supply rotis and parathas on a non-profit basis to help the victims. (Contact 6253495/3929 and 9381051570). Sakthi Hospital and Research Centre distributed bread, bedding, milk and old clothes collected from its patients. The hospital has been conducting health camps at Light House, Ayodhya Kuppam, Nochi Kuppam, Bhavani Kuppam, Lazarus Church and Pattinapakkam.
