CHENNAI, DEC. 29. Banks and educational institutions have come forward to mobilise funds for the tsunami victims. The All-India Bank Employees' Association will contribute Rs. 20 lakhs to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. It will also provide assistance for the construction of school buildings, hospitals and community halls. In a letter to the Chief Minister, members of the Tamilnadu Secretariat Staff Association offered to donate a day's salary. The staff of Padma Sarangapani Schools and V.V. Rajan and Co., an educational publishing house, will donate Rs. 75,000 collected from the staff. The team has sent 30,000 litres of water to Nagapattinam. The school students have sent 3,000 sets of dresses for distribution at the rehabilitation centre at Triplicane. Anna University has created the `Anna University Calamity Relief Fund' to receive contributions. Staff and students will donate Rs. 25 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. All contributions will be acknowledged on the Anna University web site (www.annauniv.edu). The Jaigopal Garodia Foundation founder-chairman, Jaigopal Garodia, has sent a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh. The Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and G.K. Shetty Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Adambakkam, have collected Rs. 2 lakhs. Medical assistance was provided to fishermen at Besant Nagar and Nochikuppam. The two schools and Rasika Fine Arts contributed 500 sarees, 500 dhotis and 500 packets of rice (5 kg each).
