HYDERABAD, DEC. 29. Raja Bahadur Venkat Rama Reddy Women's College, popularly known as Reddy College, received a fantastic gift for its golden jubilee celebrations, when a non-resident Indian (NRI) philanthropist, Damodar Reddy, donated Rs. 50 lakhs for construction of a new multi-storied complex. Mr. Reddy, a resident of USA, donated the money to the Golden Jubilee Trust of the college in Narayanguda. He also expressed willingness to give Rs. 25 lakhs more, if the college management raised a matching grant. The college's honorary secretary, P. Narasimha Reddy, announced this at the valedictory function here on Wednesday.
Rs. 1.5-cr. complex coming up
Mr. Reddy said a multi-storied complex was being planned at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crores. Mr. Damodar Reddy's, wife, Pramila, was felicitated on the occasion. Raja Bahadur Venkat Rama Reddy, who was the `Kotwal' of Hyderabad in the Nizam State , established the college in 1949. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone and the building was inaugurated by the then President, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, in 1955. The former Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, V. Ramakistayya, and the college Principal, A.G. Suneeti Reddy, spoke. The celebrations concluded with a musical concert by singer, Shobha Raju.
