HYDERABAD, DEC. 29. He wanted to showcase the "developmental works" undertaken by him, but ended up browbeating people when they started complaining. J. R. Anand, Administrator, Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA), took presspersons around Ziaguda area in the old city on Wednesday to show the road-cum-drainage works done by his department. But his efforts to make residents express gratification drew a blank in some bastis. Much to his consternation locals started complaining. Mr. Anand couldn't take the criticism in his stride and started shouting at an old woman in Navodaya Nagar when she said rainwater would still flood houses, as the sewerage line was not laid properly. Mr. Anand lost his cool for the second time when a woman he called to explain to presspersons the "relief" felt by residents on account of the newly laid drainage pipeline failed to put it in so many words. "Is your bathroom water flowing properly now or not," he kept asking the bewildered woman. This was not all. Mr. Anand wondered why the Ziaguda corporator, A. Muneender, couldn't appreciate the change brought about by QQSUDA in his division. He kept goading the corporator to tell this to the media. And taking the cue, Mr. Muneender waxed eloquent.
Sewerage, road works
Mr. Anand showed presspersons the sewerage and cement concrete road works done in Joshiwada, Bharatnagar, Keshvaswamy Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Police Quarters, at a cost of Rs. 2 crores. These areas, he said, were earlier inundated during the rainy season. The QQSUDA had laid 2 feet diameter pipeline replacing the earlier 8-inch pipeline. This would help the sewerage from all these bastis to flow directly into the Musi at Puranapul.
