Partly cloudy sky forecast

A partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery developments or light rain in some areas towards afternoon or evening is in store for the Capital on Thursday. Mist or fog is likely in the morning. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 7 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Wednesday was 21.3 degrees Celsius and 4.5 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum and minimum temperature was 20.8 degrees Celsius and 4.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum humidity at both Safdarjung and Palam was 97 per cent and 100 per cent respectively while minimum relative humidity was 30 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.

Murder charge; two held

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, DEC. 29.DEC. 29.DEC. The wife and nephew of a man, whose dismembered body was found at Samaipur Badli in North-West Delhi on December 15, have been arrested by the North-West Delhi police on charges of killing him. The accused had developed an illicit relationship and killed the man when he objected to their affair.

The police have recovered weapons allegedly used in the offence and further investigations are on.

Cop accused of verbal abuse

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, DEC. 29.DEC. 29.DEC. An employee of a non-government organisation has alleged that he was verbally abused and maltreated by a policeman who had stopped him for inquiry at Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi on December 24. An inquiry has been initiated.

According to the complaint, S.K. Ravi, a resident of Sector B-1 Vasant Kunj and employed with the NGO, Action Aid, was going home when he was stopped by a policeman around 11-45 p.m. The man, riding the motorcycle, inquired about his identity. When Mr. Ravi asked the policeman to show proof of his identity, the latter allegedly asked him to accompany him to the "thana" (police station).

According to the complainant, an argument broke out with the policeman in plainclothes who then took him to a nearby police booth. The complainant alleged that the policeman had also given him a false name and used foul language.

Child dies in jhuggi fire

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, DEC. 29.DEC. 29.DEC. A two-year-old girl was charred to death in a fire that gutted about 500 jhuggis at Geeta Colony in East Delhi in the early hours of today.

According to a fire department spokesperson, the fire broke out in the slum cluster near Geeta Colony cremation ground around 2-30 a.m. More than 30 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. However, the blaze was brought under control only after about two-and-a-half hours of fire fighting. Later, the firemen recovered the charred body of a two-year-old girl, identified as Nasreen.
