KOCHI, DEC. 29. M. A. Kuttappan, MLA, was gheraoed by a crowd at Edavanakadu panchayat office today, leading to tense moments in the morning. Mr. Kuttappan came to attend an all-party meeting convened to discuss the relief work. The Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation, was also present. However, the crowd demanded why Edavanakadu, worst to suffer in the tsunami tragedy, was not included in the special package announced by the State Government as it was done with Alapad and Arattupuzha in Kollam. Even though the Minister was allowed to leave, Mr. Kuttappan was made to stay back. After a heated argument, blows were exchanged. The MLA was released after M.N. Jayaprakash, Superintendent of Police (Rural), E.T. Mathew, Dy.SP. (Rural), Bijo Alexander and Sam Christie Daniel, Circle Inspectors, and C.M. Devassy, Vypeen Block Panchayat president, arrived on the scene. Cases were registered, based on a complaint filed by Mr. Kuttappan, against 15 identifiable people on charges of physical assault. One person, Kishore, got admitted to the Vincent de Paul Hospital, Kuzhipalli, complaining that Mr. Kuttappan had assaulted him.
