BANGALORE, DEC. 29. The Mayor, R. Narayanswamy, on Wednesday launched upgrading of a road at an estimated cost of Rs. 7 crores, at Kamalanagar. During his inspection of the facilities at Kamalanagar (ward no. 16), the Mayor directed the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) officials to asphalt a road in the area at the earliest. The civic body has allotted the Rs 2.5-crore work to private contractors under the package system. The Mayor also inspected asphalting of crossroads in and around Chanamma Kalyana Mantapa at Sanjaynagar and directed the officials concerned to ensure that all specifications are followed in the work. Responding to complaints from residents, the Mayor instructed the officials to de-silt roadside drains and ensure that they are cleaned regularly. He also visited Hebbal (ward no. 4) and inspected restoration of the Hebbal Lake. The work, estimated at Rs. 2 crores, started in January. The Mayor directed the officials to complete the work before the monsoon. The Deputy Mayor, N. Shantakumari; the Opposition Leader in the BMP Council, B.R. Nanjundappa; the corporators Shivraj and Venkatesh and top officials accompanied the Mayor.
