Letters to the Editor
Sir, India is on the verge of a health crisis as epidemics can break out in the relief camps set up for the survivors of the killer tsunami. Now is the time to use the much talked about preventive health care.
Susheel John,
* * * Sir, The material loss can be compensated over time but it is difficult for the survivors to overcome their mental trauma. Children who have been orphaned are particularly vulnerable. Besides the Government, private organisations and individuals should come forward to help them.
Zeba Kulsoom,
* * * Sir, Aid for the tsunami victims has started flowing in from different quarters. There should be a mechanism by which the details of the relief distributed are made known to the people. This will encourage more contribution.
G.L. Jaishankar,
* * * Sir, The Tamil Nadu Government should coordinate the functioning of its various departments with NGOs and other voluntary agencies so that relief reaches the needy without delay.
Malhia Joshua,
* * * Sir, A lack of coordination in organising relief is evident. While the people in some affected areas are getting relief material in abundance, there are others who have got virtually nothing. The immediate need is to ensure equitable distribution.
P.R. Poornima Sai,
* * * Sir, All the resources should be pooled and entrusted to an authority created for relief distribution. If there are surplus funds, a revolving fund should be created to extend soft loans to the victims.
V.C. Devadoss,
* * * Sir, The need of the hour is for the people to join hands in providing succour to the victims. Besides contributing in cash and kind, they should spare time to do voluntary service.
M. Suraj Kumar,
