Vijay Kannan wins
CHENNAI,
DEC. 30.
An experienced Vijay Kannan had the measure of 16-year-old Jeevan
Nedunchezian 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the Krishnan Tennis Centre annual tennis tournament at the centre courts, Kottivakkam here on Thursday.
Playing a compact game from the backcourt, Vijay passed Jeevan at the net quite often and ran up a 4-1 lead. Vijay finished the first set with a fine forehand down-the-line winner.
The second set could have been a whitewash as Vijay raced to a 5-0 lead, winning points at will. Jeevan did not help his cause committing numerous unforced errors; he won a lone game by breaking Vijay's serve in the sixth. But the former National hard-court champion broke back in the next game to end the 53-minute one-sided match.
The winner of the tournament gets a wild card into the qualifying round of the 2005 Chennai Open.
