dated December 31, 1954: PM on Afro-Asian meet

Prime Minister Nehru will himself lead his country's delegation to the Asian-African conference to be held in Indonesia - most probably at Bandung - in April next. A communiqué issued after the Bogor conference of the five Prime Ministers, of India, Pakistan, Ceylon, Burma and Indonesia, provides for representation at the Asian-African conference at Prime Minister's or ministerial level. Asked at a press conference in Jakarta on December 30 whether he himself was expected to come, Mr. Nehru replied: "I certainly intend to." Both Mr. Nehru and Mr. Mohammed Ali, the Pakistan Prime Minister, made it clear that at the Asian-African conference no decision would be taken on mere majority vote.
