TUMKUR, DEC. 30. Four women and two children of a family from Chelur in Tumkur district are among those killed in the tsunami disaster at Velankanni in Tamil Nadu, on Sunday. This became known when Basavaraju, who survived the tragedy, reached Chelur today. Mr. Basavaraju, his wife, Munilakshmamma (55), their daughter, Gayatri (30), and their grandson (Gayatri's child), Dushyanth, had gone to Velankanni in connection with the boy's first birthday. Gayatri's mother-in-law, Kanakaveli (50), her daughter, Geetha (43), and granddaughter Shwetha (13), had joined them. They left Bangalore on December 24. Mr. Basavaraju said that after service in the church he preferred to stay in the lodge while the others went to the beach on the fateful morning and all of them were washed away.
