Two more held in arms supply case

KARIMNAGAR, DEC 30. In a sequel to the naxalite arms supply incident, the Godavarikhani sub-division police arrested two more persons, who were reportedly involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to the CPI (Maoists) group naxalites, and recovered Rs 10.40 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

Disclosing this to newsmen here, the Godavarikhani ASP, Ch Srikanth, said on credible information the police had waited at the Ramagundam railway station and arrested the Jammikunta hamili sangham leader and former militant of the Maoist group, Samrajyam, and the arms supplier, P Anil Reddy of Warangal district, and recovered the cash, which was given by the CPI Maoists east division DCM, Mallikarjun alias Srinu, for procurement of weapons.

The Manthani police arrested the sarpanch of Vilasagar of Jammikunta mandal, P Ramesh, and the Warangal businessman, M Sunil Reddy, on Tuesday on the outskirts of Gopalpuram village when they were on their way to handing over a DBBL weapon and two landmines to the Maoist naxalites. The ASP said Anil Reddy had supplied two revolvers to the Warangal district Chityal dalam in 1996 by procuring them from Uttar Pradesh. He had allegedly sent to the naxalites a proposal for supply of arms. Accordingly, the DCM, Srinu, had allegedly handed over Rs 5 lakhs as first instalment to the Vilasagar sarpanch and Sunil Reddy, the brother-in-law of arms supplier, Anil Reddy. All the three had spent the amount lavishly in the Hyderabad city. As a proof for distribution of weapons, they had decided to distribute one DBBL and two landmines to naxalites, but were caught by the police.

Samrajyam and Anil Reddy sad they had decided to supply arms to the naxalites following threat from them.
