HYDERABAD, DEC. 30. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday presented a grant of Rs. 10 lakhs to Nagarjuna University for successfully conducting the All India Inter-University Athletic Meet last week. And in tune with the sports policy of the Government, tennis prodigy Sania Mirza was presented Rs.5 lakhs for her consistent performances in 2004 and as an incentive before embarking for the next month's Australian Open where she got a wild card entry. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Reddy congratulated Sania on her achievements and hopes that she would continue to bring more laurels to the State and the country. Responding to the gesture, Sania reiterated her resolve to do well next year. "I am looking forward to the blessings of all sports lovers. I promise that I will not let them down at least in terms of commitment," she remarked. Sumita Dawra, VC & MD of SAAP, introduced tennis players and sports officials to the Chief Minister. She also appealed to the Fateh Maidan Club officials to ensure that all outstanding international sportspersons were given club membership without any hassles.
Club gesture
Incidentally, office-bearers of Fateh Maidan Club at Lal Bahadur Stadium, led by its president, Kamalakar Reddy, and L.Venkatram Reddy, secretary of Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, presented a cheque of Rs. 5 lakhs to the Chief Minister's relief fund for the tsunami victims in the State.
