KOLKATA, DEC. 30. The West Bengal Governor today ordered an inquiry into the theft of a rare sandstone head of a Buddha statue from the gallery of the Indian Museum here as the police began a search to trace the antique item. ``The Governor, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the museum has requested the vice-chairman of the Trustee Board, Professor Ashis Kumar Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University to inquire into the incident,'' a Raj Bhavan release said. Mr. Banerjee, who heads the internal security committee of the museum, has also been asked by the governor to suggest measures to improve security of invaluable objects housed in the museum and prevent ``a recurrence of this type of incident in the future.'' ``This inquiry will be independent of and without prejudice to the investigation being conducted by the police,'' the release said.
