Fog affects train services

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. Foggy conditions in northern and eastern States continued to affect movement of trains in the Capital on Thursday also. Though the fog did not hamper flight operations, movement of trains was badly affected leading to cancellation of over 10 trains.

According to a Northern Railway spokesperson, the trains that were cancelled included the 2428/2427 Rewa Express running between New Delhi and Rewa, 4618/4617 Unchchahar Express between Allahabad and Ambala, 4023/4024 Kalindi Express between Delhi and Farukkhabad, 3111/3112 Delhi- Sealdah Lal Quila Express and the 2419/2420 Gomti Express between New Delhi and Lucknow.

Similarly, over a dozen trains were reportedly running behind schedule, including AP Express, Kaifiyat Express, Amritsar-New Delhi Express and Jallandhar City-New Delhi Express.

Due to late running of trains, at least half-a-dozen trains were also rescheduled. These included the Shalimar Express and AP Express, the spokesperson added.

Phone cables damaged

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. Due to bursting of a water pipeline near the Tis Hazari telephone exchange, six primary telephone cables of 800 pairs serving pockets of Chandni Chowk, Katra Neel, Kucha Mahajani, Ballimaran, Fatehpuri, Chawri Bazar and Charkiwalan have been damaged leaving 2,500 phones non-functional. Restoration work is under way and might take a week's time before all the telephone lines are restored, according to an MTNL announcement on Thursday.

Bank branch opened

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. The 101st branch of Canara Bank was inaugurated by the General Manager of Circle Office, Delhi, Prakash P. Mallya, at New Friends Colony here on Wednesday. The new bank is fully computerised with Internet banking facility and will provide all banking and other para-banking services to customers. ATM is also being provided for uninterrupted service to its customers.

CNG facility inaugurated

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. The Chief Executive Officer of Noida, Deo Dutta, today inaugurated the Indraprastha Gas Limited's Compressed Natural Gas dispensing facilities at three places in Noida. Speaing at the inauguration function, the IGL Managing Director, A.K. De, said: "IGL has demonstrated the experience and expertise of creating and maintaining the CNG in the Capital. We would like to be given an opportunity to create the natural gas infrastructure in Noida."

The Director Commercial of IGL, Rakesh Mohan Gupta, said: "Inception of the CNG dispensing facility is a step in the direction of making this city environment-friendly. IGL is committed to lend effective support to carry forward this drive."
