Shikha Uberoi applies to play for India

NEW DELHI, DEC. 30 . Shikha Uberoi, an Indian-born residing in the United States, has applied to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to play for India.

Shikha, who is currently ranked 159, is likely to represent India in the 2005 Fed Cup tournament, according to information received here.

Shikha performance in US Open has been exemplary. She beat Saori Obata (Jpn 56) to advance to the second round where she went down fighting against Venus Williams (5-7, 1-6).

The Asian Tennis Federation has also recommend to the Australian Open for a wild card for Shikha Uberoi for mixed doubles with Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan. — UNI
