TIRUPATI, DEC. 30. Protesting against the mushrooming of cutouts, hoardings and billboards sporting obscene pictures, especially those promoting liquor brands, members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) went around the town on Thursday and destroyed the posters. The women, who took out a procession in the town. They divided themselves into groups and held demonstrations at various places before damaging the hoardings. Flaying the `surrogate advertising' being perpetrated by liquor companies to bend the rule against promoting alcohol, the AIDWA district office-bearers demanded stringent action on the violators. The women also condemned the indecent portrayal of women in advertisements for sheer commercial purposes and said that it reflected badly the country's ethos. They said that they would harden their stand if the posters appeared again.
