NELLORE, DEC. 30. The former Minister and district president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), S. Chandramohan Reddy, lashed out at the State Government for not taking adequate measures to help the tsunami victims. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he alleged that a number of affected areas still suffered from lack of minimum help and claimed that in some places food packets were not supplied even after two days. He informed that during his visit to Gudur division on Wednesday, he was told that a majority of the people in shelters at Duggirajapatnam had no proper food. Mr. Reddy found fault with the Government for not declaring the tsunami a national calamity.
Unsatisfied
He was not satisfied with the relief measures and reminded that during the 2001 cyclone, the TDP Government had given 25 kg. of rice and Rs. 1,500/- for purchase of utensils to each affected family. The TDP leader charged the Government with indulging in politics even in identifying the victims and alleged that the fishermen of Krishnapuram had been left out, as they were known to be supporters of the TDP. He dismissed the complaints of Congress leaders that the TDP supremo, Chandrababu Naidu, indulged in politics when he toured the affected areas. Mr. Reddy regretted that no action plan was prepared so far and no senior official of the district deputed to the affected places for a regular stay.
