Alert again in seashore areas

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE, DEC. 30. The district administration has sounded an alert along the seashore areas of Nellore on Thursday following a warning about the possibility of a further flare up of the sea, in the aftermath of the tsunami.

The District Revenue Officer, P. Bhaskar, Nellore, the RDO, Venkatrami Reddy, and other officials convened a meeting with the officials concerned at the tourist guest house of Mypadu, 21 km from here, and prepared an action plan.

The DRO said that the administration had been geared up for any eventuality and was taking over the local educational institutions for shifting people, if necessary. Also a number of lorries had been requisitioned, besides arrangements made for cooking.

Police posted

Police have been posted in large numbers at Mypadu and visitors warned against going near the shore. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea. Lorries have been sent to vulnerable areas like Krishnapuram, Pallepalem and other places.

The alert, however, has resulted in a hectic activity in Mypadu and other places, with people getting ready for possible shifting. While some have already started moving to nearby areas, some are still staying at their places. However, the panic witnessed on Sunday was absent this time, since people have adjusted to the situation.

The district Collector, B. Rajsekhar, said the exercise was in accordance with the general alert and all special officers have been deputed to vulnerable places. Efforts are on to shift people to safer places depending on the situation. As per available information, people in six villages of Kavali mandal are proposed to be shifted to safer places.
