MYSORE, DEC. 30. A team of 27 trekkers from Mysore, Bangalore and Kolar, who had left on a national trekking expedition to the eastern ghats recently, are safe in Araku valley, about 120 km from the Visakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh. The trekking expedition had been organised under the aegis of Rotary Mysore Adventure Corps and the International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports. The convenor of Rotary Mysore Adventure Corps, Solanki, telephoned The Hindu from Araku valley, which is about 3,000 feet above sea level, saying the trekking expedition has been successful and all the trekkers are safe. "We are presently in Araku valley, 120 km from Visakhapatnam," he said. Andhra Pradesh was among the coastal areas in the country that was hit by the tsunami tidal waves.
