Mahila Congress to help victims
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and in-charge for Andhra Pradesh, Janaki Savant, said the team carrying the relief material would tour West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore districts during the next two three days. Clothes, utensils and blankets collected through contributions would be distributed to the affected people. A report would be submitted to the All-India Mahila Congress by the State unit.
CPI(M) leader's plea to YSR
The CPI (M) secretary, B.V. Raghavulu, in a letter written to the Chief Minister has said over 25,000 people from the State are living in the islands. Panic has gripped relatives of these people in wake of the quake and tsunami, he has said. He has urged the Government to set up a cell in the Relief Commissioner's office and control rooms in coastal districts to monitor the situation and gather information.
Honour for scientist
It will be presented at a function at the Music Academy Auditorium on April 3, 2005. Dr. Jagdeesh is a resource person in renewable energy to many organisations and published more than 110 research papers. He received 13 international and national awards for his contribution to the field of renewable energy.
Call for consumer awareness
Speaking at a workshop on `Crusade against adulteration, counterfeiting and spurious products' organised by the Civil Supplies Department here on Thursday, he said consumers were getting cheated due to lack of awareness on their rights. Consumers also do not bother to check the quality and price of a product before buying it, he added. The Commissioner Civil Supplies, Bhanwarlal, said that a forum for redressal of consumers' problems was launched recently and it would meet every Saturday. The Minister later released a poster on adulteration of food products brought out by the department.
YSR releases revenue diary
The diary contains all the relevant Acts and rules useful in day-to-day administration of all revenue employees. The association president, K. Laxmaiah, general secretary, N. Anand Rao, and others were present.
Pratibha scholarships sought
A delegation of the association, led by its president, R.V. Rao, and the secretary, K.V. Rao, called on the Chief Minister on Thursday and thanked him for enabling admission of about 600 students to the BITS Pilani. They requested him to extend the Pratibha scholarships to the Goa campus also as it was a part of the BITS Pilani, Rajasthan. The applications sent by the Goa campus were referred to the principal secretary, Higher Education, seeking orders whether these students were also eligible for the scholarships, the delegation said.

Ragging case against 2 students
The police initiated action after receiving a complaint from a first year B.Tech student, Parthsarathi, a native of Srikakulam district. Two-second year students--Mahesh and Raghu--have been allegedly harassing Parthsarathi since the beginning of the classes. As the ragging by the duo along with few more seniors became unbearable, Parthasarathi complained to the principal, Laxmipathi. Encouraged by the inaction of the college management, the seniors forced Parthasarathi to shave his moustache and forced him to undress on Thursday. He ran away and lodged a complaint at the police station. Some of the D.V.R students had earlier gone on the rampage at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.
