Government under fire at CPI(M) meet

By Our Staff Reporter

NAKREKAL (NALGONDA DT.), DEC. 30. The Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Koratala Satyanarayana, and the party State secretary, B.V. Raghavulu, have stepped up offensive against the Congress Government at Centre and in the State.

Addressing a public meeting after participating in a rally organised at the end of the party Nalgonda unit's three-day conference here on Thursday, Mr. Satyanarayana lashed out at the Congress for failing to take up land reforms while the latter criticised the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for `not keeping' poll promises.

Stir warned

Mr. Raghavulu warned of launching a movement on the lines of the agitation led by the party in 2001 against the hike in power tariff, if the Government went back on the free power promise.

He further asked the Government to ensure loan facility to farmers.

Finding fault with the new excise policy, he alleged that it was intended to help liquor companies at the cost of local toddy-tappers.

Pension demanded

Mr. Raghauvulu was critical of the Government's attitude in sanctioning freedom fighters' pension for the heroes of the Telangana peasants' armed struggle.

"Since they worked for the Congress victory, it is its responsibility to ensure pension for them. If it failed to do so by the next Parliament session, they will launch another struggle,'' he warned.

Mr. Satyanarayana took strong exception to the reported move to privatise public sector units and said the Communists would not spare the Government if it go ahead with it. He criticised the Government for failing to constitute a committee to take up the land reforms issue.
