TDP defends Naidu's action
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
DEC. 29.
Leaders of the Telugu Desam Party on Thursday hit back at Congress leaders, saying the TDP chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and others were only bringing failure in the relief efforts to the notice of the Government.
At a press conference, TDP leaders Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao and S. Venugopalachari condemned the criticism of the Congress that the TDP was politicising the issue of relief to tsunami victims and their families.
Referring to Mr. Naidu's visit to the tsunami-affected districts, they said he was only fulfilling his duties to the people as a leader of the Opposition, by bringing to the fore lapses on the part of the officials. The TDP had been demanding the declaration of a national calamity and proportionate aid to the State, they said, regretting that the Government had not deemed it fit to accede to their demand.
